5 Benefits of Catholic Volleyball During High School

St. Agnes Academy
Is your daughter interested in playing volleyball in high school? We offer a robust Catholic volleyball program for students of different skill levels. Discover the benefits of participating in a team sport like volleyball.
Athletic programming is an invaluable component of a young person’s high school experience. In fact, it is currently estimated that nearly 60% of all U.S. high schoolers participate in at least one school or community sport during their educational career.

In addition to fostering a sense of community within an educational environment, a robust athletics department in a high school setting can provide students with valuable life skills and experiences that will serve them throughout their lives.

Volleyball is one of St. Agnes Academy’s most sought-after fall sports, and students may qualify to join one of our four different teams. We are proud to tap into the rising popularity of volleyball amongst high school students to help young women grow athletically and personally.

Let’s take a closer look at the Catholic volleyball program at St. Agnes and discuss some of the benefits of participating in high school athletics.

High School Athletics: The Benefits

Before we dive into the specific aspects of the volleyball program at St. Agnes, it’s important to understand the many advantages of participating in an athletics program.

Participating in high school athletics can be beneficial for many well-documented reasons, as students can build skills and confidence through athletic competition. Consider five primary benefits of playing sports like volleyball during high school:

1. Playing high school sports gives students a solid foundational understanding of physical fitness principles. Participating in athletic activities can help keep students active and improve overall physical health.

2. Team sports like volleyball encourage students of diverse backgrounds and perspectives to work together towards a common goal and reinforce skills like communication and cooperation.

3. Being actively involved in sports has been linked to higher levels of academic achievement. Experts suggest that this may be attributable to the fact that physical activity increases blood flow to the brain and can actually lead to increased cognitive abilities.

4. Playing sports helps students acquire life skills, such as time management and decision-making, that can be applied in academic and professional settings.

5. Committing to a sports team can look great on college applications. It helps colleges see that a student participated in extracurricular activities and gained valuable skills through athletic pursuits.
