It was a Noche Caliente for St. Agnes Academy Saturday, Feb. 20 as the school raised more than $350,000 at the annual Legacy Gala & Auction at the Hilton Americas Hotel.
The event honored the Rev. Phil Lloyd, pastor at Houston's St. Theresa Catholic Church in Memorial Park, and alumnae parents Judy and Darby Seré with the Academy's 2010 Dominican Spirit Award. The award illustrates the faith and visionary leadership of the Dominican Sisters who founded the Academy in 1906. Today, the award is bestowed to an individual or organization that carries on the tradition of the Dominican Sisters by paving the way for St. Agnes now and for the next 100 years.
Current parents Ann Laws and Laura Lee Vaio served as chairs for this year's event, coordinating silent, live and big board auctions, as well as dinner and dancing, for the evening. Entertainment for the night was provided by Mango Punch.
All gala proceeds support St. Agnes' operating costs. Fund raisers conducted throughout the year maintain the mission of the Dominican Sisters of Houston by helping to keep tuition costs affordable for the school's diverse student population.
